DuringARPIA2012, GrietDobbelspresentsher proposal"Themap isnottheterritory",an intervention inthe landscape that eventually changes the landscapeitself into a map.
How do individuals relate to a landscape. You can now, from your sofa, view any place in the world through Google Maps. Simultaneously he immense size of this space creates a need for intimacy, a need to line out this landscape, literally structuring and mapping it. This helps to position itself in the global landscape (the global cyberspace).
This proposal is an intervention in the landscape by which the landscape itself over time becomes a map. The landscape is seen as a sheet of paper with contour lines, which literally are indicated and determine where you stand. They form a frame of reference in which the individual finds a hold.
The landscape becomes a moving model, where groups on the basis of signs and markings shall move in certain directions and in this way make them see the landscape in a different way.
Concrete elaboration
By means of contour lines various walking and / or cycling are created. Initially, the contour lines are marked with a chalk line. Some contour lines are concentric circles, others stop at the edge of the domain. These `open-end` contour lines shape outlook points to where the contour line would proceed.
As on a map with contour lines, the effective height is indicated by numbers (- 5 -) in concrete on the ground.
Over time, the chalk line will disappear and a natural, organic line, formed by the walker will be formed. After a few years this path will become visible on Google Maps.
By groups of people a physical map is drawn in the landscape that in turn makes the landscape move.
Location
The importance and function of space, temporality / timelessness, volatility, the moment, the landscape, border areas, building / demolition and working on scale are important substantive elements in my current work.
Examples of this in the past year are the interactive video animation projection / installation `Double 00` (Voorkamer (Lier)) and the work My gated communities.
From these contents and especially from my interest to continue to look for other media, this project - literally exploring the landscape - can mean a further step in my research.
